Why not stay local for Mother’s Day this year? Skip the wilted flower delivery and that two-hour wait at an overcrowded restaurant. There is no better city in America for family fun and interactive entertainment.  Here are five creative Staycation ideas for Mother’s Day in Orlando to make Mom feel like the treasure she is.

  1. BE A TOURIST FOR THE DAY:  Visitors to Orlando simply assume that those living in City Beautiful enjoy the multitude of attractions every day, but that simply isn’t the case for most families. Choose one thing Mom has put off time and time again because to her, kids come first.  Maybe she has mentioned Downtown Disney’s Cirque De Soleil more than once or hasn’t seen Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter yet! Does she love Beauty and the Beast? Why not check out Disney’s new Be Our Guest restaurant.
  2. BACK TO NATURE:  Get nostalgic for ‘old Florida’ with a day on the water.  Kayaking at Wekiwa Springs would make an excellent family outing day.  Glass bottom boat tours of Silver Springs or Hammock Adventures airboat rides are both fun and educational.  Rent a boat from Buena Vista Watersports and do a day on the water at your own pace.
  3. KEEP IT SIMPLE:  Surprise Mom with a picnic lunch and a new book by her favorite author.  Make the picnic yourself or have it packed by people who specialize in food services such as Whole Foods Market.  Head out to Lake Eola, Baldwin or Celebration Lakeside Park and enjoy the afternoon.  Pack frisbees, balls and kites for entertainment.  This way, Mom gets a good meal while kids run a little wild.  Best of all, the kitchen at home stays clean.
  4. SPA DAY:  The first three ideas are family friendly but a spa day is just for Mom.  Marilyn Monroe Day Spas have locations throughout Orlando and are always a wonderful gift for any mom in need of pampering.  Another option is Reflections Spa and Salon along with a night at Lake Buena Vista Resort Village.  While the family enjoys Pirate Plunge Pool, Mom is relaxing with a facial, mani-pedi and massage.  Believe me, Mom will love and appreciate spa day.  It may become the go-to gift for her for years to come.
  5. TRIED AND TRUE:  When was the last time Mom had a shopping day that didn’t include new socks, underwear and shoes for the kids?  Send Mom to the outlets on I-Drive while the kids go to FunSpot for a few hours.  Use the I-Drive Trolly for easy transportation from Prime Outlets to the Orlando Premium Outlets.  Tell her every purchase made on this outing must be only for herself and looking at kid’s clothes is a no-no.  Even if she protests, she will secretly love you for that rule.
